Revenge of the Girl With the Great Personality Elizabeth Eulberg Books
This was a book of cliches. The "average" girl who no one pays any attention to. The pretty best friend and their side-kick, the gay guy.Miss Average transforms herself into Miss Beautiful to get the attention of a boy she likes and to become one of the popular girls. Of course her plan succeeds and of course she discovers that she hates it. *Yawn*. Her old life, which she spends the first half of the book doing nothing but complaining about, is suddenly all shes ever wanted. And of course her Prince Charming in High School turns out to be an ogre in disguise. *YAWN!*
I can't really say that this book was terrible. I mean, all of the necessary components were present, but its all been done before. Done to death. In books, in tons of movies and even in song. So, do we really need another retelling?
I was hoping that the Children's Beauty Pageants would add something fresh and new to the plot. The main characters younger sister competes in beauty pageants, so that had potential. Theres plenty to work with, after all. Instead, this book turned out to be your typical whinny tale of teen anxiety and woe. The main character comes across as somewhat self centered, self absorbed and certainly self pittying. Listening to her whine and complain gets old very quickly!
Furthermore, the plot was lacking in any unexpected drama or tension. This book was very obvious and very boring. I was hoping for a fresh, funny read. This book has a great title, but really not much else going for it. If you're looking for a funny, entertaining book about the beauty pageant world, I would recommend Beauty Queens by Libba Bray.
If you absolutely must read Revenge of the Girl, I would suggest borrowing it or picking it up from the library. Also make sure you have a large quantity of caffein available, unless you WANT to fall asleep. If you're looking for a sleep aide, this book is better than a Tylenol PM.
In short, this ones just not worth the price, or the time and effort that it takes to get through it.

Revenge of the Girl With the Great Personality Elizabeth Eulberg Books Reviews
3.5 stars rounded down.
Here's the thing. I am not a pageant person. Especially when they involve young children. The appeal, I just do not understand.
The main character, Lexi, is also not a fan of pageants. She's "sick of it," the back cover blurb says (paperback edition). She's so sick of it that she decides to "play the beauty game" too. That's a little hypocritical, right? It seems that way to me, at least.
But, with that being said, Elizabeth Eulberg delivers another easy read, and Lexi's growth throughout the book, where she eventually ends up, I do like. So while I can't say that I particularly "like" this book, I can't say that it's just "okay" either.
This book was given to me as a gift, which I am thankful for because I would be even more disappointed if I spent money on it.
This book is horrendous!!! And I'm sorry because this review is going to be more of a rant.
Where to start....?
The Plot
So predictable and not at all what I wanted from this book. I expected this to be a girl who shows up all of the "popular" girls at school looking fantastic and then ignores them because she knows she doesn't need them. But this book follows the stupid plot of "Oh how I wish I was POPULAR!!!!!" When you aren't popular like she was you get to see how stupid the popular kids act and so I find it terribly unbelievable when these girls in these books are suddenly dying to be a part of that nonsense.
And also, what is popular? Because when I was in school there was no single popular group that everyone looked up to. Each individual sub-group has a popular group (Band kids have the popular band kids). Books like this are just so unrealistic because they seem to be coming from someone who never went to school or even left their house their entire life.
The Characters
Lexi was like a cheese grater against my brain. "I hate makeup and dressing up but let me do it anyway for a boy and for the popular kids. Oh, and they are ALL my bestie best friends now. But wait, I liked the old me so let me go back, hopefully my new friends will still love me." GIVE ME A BREAK.
Her gay best friend- I skipped every section of the book in which he was shown, which was pretty much the entire book. Why does every book written for teens nowadays have to have a gay best friend? They're people, not Prada bags we can tote around and show off. Not even that, gay kids are cool so why are they always shown as the outcasts? They're the coolest and most included kids at school!
Her mother- I UNDERSTAND she was supposed to be obsessed with pageants and mean and everything but the author seemed to give her the brain of a three year old. Even crazy mothers like that would not retort to their daughters "Well you're ugly" she's a grown woman who went to school, I would think her developed mind would be above the 5-year-old in the car.
Pretty much I just read the parts where they were at pageants. The rest of the book is stupid and a waste.
Don't bother with it.
